The Passing of the Torch

Every generation experiences a defining moment that is etched in their memory for years to come. These pivotal moments can make or break a person. John Robert Lewis was someone who came to greatness during a crucial moment in American history: The Civil Rights Era. Lewis became one of the youngest civil rights activists at a time when Black Americans were fighting for equal rights.

Congressman John Robert Lewis is seen as an icon who stood out because of his resiliency and the messages of hope he brought to the American people. If he is mentioned in the history books, he may only be given two sentences stating that he was a civil rights leader who later became a Congressman representing Georgia’s 5th Congressional District. However, he was so much more.

During these historical events, some people are able to display a level of strength and character that conjures up admiration and inspiration. I was lucky enough to experience and benefit from this man from Troy, whom Martin Luther King, Jr. affectionately referred to as the, “Boy from Troy.”

Please take a moment and listen to his message to us (linked below), which he wanted to be shared after his passing. I hope it touches something deep within you and inspires you to as he would say, “Get into some good trouble,” which is what he did for over 60 years of his life.
